How to Create a Google Play Closed Testing Opt-In Link
Step-by-step guide to generating and sharing your Play Console closed testing opt-in link so testers can join and install your app.
Every closed testing campaign starts with an opt-in link. Testers click it, accept the invite, and install your app from Google Play. Without a working opt-in link, play store testing cannot begin. Here is how to create and share one in Play Console.
Create your closed testing release first
In Play Console, go to Testing → Closed testing. Create a track (or use the default), upload your App Bundle or APK, and roll out the release. The opt-in link only works after a release is published to that track.
Copy the opt-in URL
- Open your closed testing track in Play Console
- Go to Testers tab
- Choose Email lists or Google Groups, or create a new list
- Click Copy link under How testers join your test
- Share that URL with testers — not the Play Store public listing link
Common opt-in link mistakes
- Sharing the wrong track link (internal vs closed)
- Sending the link before the release is live
- Testers opening the link on desktop without a signed-in Google account
- Testers in unsupported countries for your app
- Using an expired or regenerated link without updating recruits
What testers should do after clicking
Testers must be signed into the Google account you invited (or use the web opt-in flow), accept the testing invitation, then install from the Play Store link shown. Ask them to open the app at least once and confirm they see the testing badge on your store listing.
Managing many testers
Tracking 20+ opt-ins manually is tedious. PlayStorePass handles tester assignment and opt-in verification for you — so you do not need to chase screenshots and follow-ups yourself.
