How to Get Google Play Production Access for New Developer Accounts

If you created a new Google Play developer account recently, you may notice that production is locked until you complete additional checks. Google introduced stricter onboarding for personal accounts to improve Play Store quality. Production access is not automatic — you earn it by running a proper closed test.

Why is production locked?

Google limits first-time publishers to testing tracks until they demonstrate that real users have tested the app. This reduces spam apps, clone apps, and policy-breaking releases. The lock is normal for new accounts and is not a penalty.

Step 1: Prepare your app and Play Console listing

Step 3: Wait for the testing period

Google typically expects closed testing to run for about two weeks before you can request production access. Use this time to fix crashes, improve onboarding, and respond to tester feedback. A stable build increases your chance of smooth approval.

Step 4: Request production access

When eligible, Play Console shows a Request production access button. You will answer questions about your app, testing process, and business model. Be honest and specific. After submission, review can take from a few days to a couple of weeks.

What if production access is denied?

Read Google's feedback carefully. Common issues include insufficient tester engagement, policy concerns, or incomplete store listing information. Extend closed testing, improve app quality, and reapply. Avoid buying fake installs — that risks account suspension.
